Job Description for Certified Pharmacy Technician
The pharmacy technician is responsible for supporting non-clinical pharmacy operations, administrative activities, and ensuring a positive patient experience. This role involves operating pharmacy systems, supervising pharmacy technicians and cashiers, and managing workflow within legal and company guidelines.
Customer Experience
- Engage customers and patients, assist with products and services, resolve complaints, and answer non-clinical questions to enhance customer satisfaction.
- Build strong relationships by anticipating needs and proactively offering healthcare services.
Operations
- Assist pharmacists with patient care activities, prescription processing, and healthcare services such as vaccinations and health screenings, within legal limits.
- Delegate and assign non-clinical tasks, ensure timely completion, and maintain pharmacy standards and inventory management.
- Prepare reports, manage daily workflow, and support pharmacy operations and compliance activities.
- Implement technology and process improvements, maintain equipment, and ensure security and proper recordkeeping.
- Adhere to Good Faith Dispensing policies and support asset protection efforts.
- Process insurance claims accurately, resolve issues, and participate in audits.
- Support community outreach and build retail partnerships.
People & Performance Management
- Lead technician performance management, including discipline and termination decisions, and ensure compliance with legal standards.
- Handle hiring, onboarding, training, and scheduling of pharmacy technicians.
- Identify training gaps and support team development to improve pharmacy operations.
- Monitor licensure and certifications, ensuring compliance with regulations.
Training & Personal Development
- Maintain PTCB or equivalent certification and pursue ongoing education and training.
- Engage in professional development, performance monitoring, and mentorship.
Communication
- Maintain effective communication within the pharmacy team and participate in meetings and check-ins.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- PTCB or ExCPT certification (excluding Puerto Rico).
- At least one year of pharmacy technician experience in a retail or hospital setting.
- Fluency in English (excluding Puerto Rico).
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
