Pharmacy Technician Job Description
Responsible for performing day-to-day non-clinical pharmacy operations and administrative activities, ensuring efficient workflow and a positive patient experience. Serves as a full-time certified pharmacy technician.
- Operate pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions. Work under the supervision of a pharmacist, supervising pharmacy technicians and cashiers within legal and company guidelines.
- Lead the selection, scheduling, and development of pharmacy technician personnel. Conduct training, coaching, and performance management, including disciplinary actions and terminations.
Customer Experience
- Engage with customers and patients, greet them, assist with products and services, resolve complaints, and respond to requests to ensure a positive experience. Share customer service best practices.
- Build strong relationships by anticipating needs and proactively offering services, enhancing the healthcare experience.
Operations
- Assist pharmacists in delivering patient care, including registration, data entry, medication preparation, counting, and verification, under legal supervision. Support healthcare services like vaccinations and health screenings, where permitted.
- Exercise independent judgment to delegate and assign non-clinical work, ensuring timely completion and accountability.
- Prepare and file reports required by the company and government agencies, manage pharmacy workflow, and organize daily activities.
- Ensure compliance, maintain inventory, and oversee administrative activities and equipment operation, including security measures.
- Adhere to Good Faith Dispensing policies and support asset protection and diversion monitoring.
- Report prescription errors, ensure insurance claim accuracy, and support financial and operational improvements.
- Coordinate community outreach, build retail partnerships, and support off-site clinics.
People & Performance Management
- Lead technician performance management, including discipline, hiring, onboarding, training, and scheduling, ensuring compliance with laws and policies.
- Identify training gaps and support team development, ensuring licensure and certification compliance.
Training & Personal Development
- Maintain PTCB or state certification, pursue ongoing education, and participate in performance improvement activities.
- Seek professional growth through self-monitoring, feedback, and mentorship.
Communication
- Maintain effective communication with the pharmacy team and participate in meetings and check-ins.
Minimum Requirements
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
- PTCB or ExCPT certification (except in Puerto Rico)
- At least one year of pharmacy technician experience in retail or hospital setting
- Fluent in English (reading, writing, speaking), except in Puerto Rico
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
