Job Description for Pharmacy Technician

The pharmacy technician is responsible for supporting non-clinical pharmacy operations, administrative activities, and ensuring efficient workflow to enhance patient experience. This role involves operating pharmacy systems, supervising pharmacy technicians and cashiers, and managing pharmacy personnel development.

Customer Experience

• Engage customers and patients, provide assistance, resolve complaints, and respond to requests to ensure a positive experience.
• Build strong relationships by anticipating needs and promoting healthcare services.

Operations

• Assist pharmacists with patient registration, prescription processing, medication preparation, and healthcare services such as vaccinations and screenings.
• Delegate non-clinical tasks, ensure timely completion, and manage pharmacy workflow and inventory.
• Prepare reports, maintain records, and ensure compliance with policies and regulations.
• Manage pharmacy equipment, support security, and oversee pharmacy financials and community outreach activities.

People & Performance Management

• Lead technician performance, handle discipline and termination decisions, and oversee hiring, onboarding, and training.
• Identify training gaps and support team development, ensuring licensure and certifications are maintained.

Training & Personal Development

• Maintain PTCB certification, pursue ongoing education, and participate in performance improvement initiatives.

Communication

• Communicate effectively with the pharmacy team and participate in store meetings.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• PTCB or ExCPT certification (except in Puerto Rico).
• At least one year of pharmacy technician experience in retail or hospital settings.
• Fluency in English (except in Puerto Rico).
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
