Job description

DESCRIPTION:

The Pharmacy Inventory Lead has demonstrated competence related to the inventory and compliance needs of the inpatient pharmacy. The Pharmacy Inventory Lead is responsible for coordinating training and making sure policies and procedures related to inventory management and compliance, as it pertains to the inpatient pharmacy are met. They direct the workflow of receiving critical patient medications into The University of Vermont Medical Center (UVMMC). The Pharmacy Inventory Lead works with the Pharmacy Buyer Supervisor to oversee the receipt of all medications that are ordered by the pharmacy buyers and support operations which include handling of controlled substances, hazardous medications, medications for inpatients, medications for infusion clinics and medications supplied to all UVMMC affiliated clinics and departments. They need to ensure timely receipt and proper storage for all medications received and redistributed by the Inpatient Pharmacy Storeroom. This includes a working knowledge of several information systems that support the inventory process including but not limited to wholesale distributor software, inventory management systems, EPIC, and StatStock.
The Pharmacy Inventory Lead will have a comprehensive understanding of the Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA) and will ensure that all policies and procedures related to DSCSA are up to date and followed by staff. The distribution of medications requires understanding of multiple workflows and working closely with numerous parties toward the goal of ensuring that the right drug is in the right place at the right time. This position is responsible for making sure cycle counts are regularly performed throughout the inventory management system to maintain the accuracy of inventory information. They must have good multitasking skills and be able to deal with many interruptions throughout the day such as phone calls, while utilizing superior customer service practices. This position is responsible for the oversight of reconciling and replenishing all hospital Emergency Code Carts and various kits stocked throughout the hospital using RFID technology and creating/replenishing new drug kits as needed to support patient needs.

Education: EDUCATION:
Associate degree in business or 2 years of college or technical school, preferably with an emphasis in business or inventory management. Pharmacy Tech certification desirable.
Registration required with the State of Vermont as a Pharmacy technician.


Experience: EXPERIENCE:
2 years of experience with computerized purchasing and pharmacy inventory systems.

Knowledge/Special Skills:
Ability to understand regulatory requirements related to handling and storage of medications, attention to detail, accuracy and organizational skills along with excellent problem solving, negotiation and conflict management skills are necessary. The ability to work with minimal supervision is required. Candidate must possess excellent verbal and interpersonal skills for effective communication. The ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work with frequent interruptions. Desire to teach others and intervene when processes and procedures are not being followed.
