Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital is seeking a pharmacy technician intern to support the pharmacist with procurement, distribution, documentation, and compounding of drugs and equipment for patients and staff. The role emphasizes familiarity with dosages for various age groups and adherence to procedures and regulations.

Under supervision, you will assist with IV admixtures and unit-dose preparations, maintain stock, and provide drug information and patient education.

Qualifications

  • A student currently enrolled in, or accepted to, an accredited school or college of pharmacy is required.
  • Experience as a pharmacy technician is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs duties to assist the pharmacist in procurement, distribution, documentation, and compounding of drugs, solutions, and equipment.
  • Maintains familiarity with dosages and volumes for infant to geriatric patients related to medication compounding and dispensing.
  • Operates under standard procedures, guidelines, and state/federal regulations; handles IV admixtures including unit dose syringes and chemotherapy medications.
  • Provides drug information and patient education under supervision; completes assigned projects including staff education and clinical data collection and analysis.

Performs duties to assist the pharmacist in the procurement, distribution, documentation, and compounding related to drugs, solutions, and equipment to meet the needs of patients and staff. Responsible for being familiar with dosages and volumes of medications and solutions associated with infant, pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric patients as it relates to medication compounding and dispensing. Functions in accordance with standard written procedures, guidelines, and state and federal regulations. Responsible as assigned for the admixtures of medications to IV solutions including but not limited to the preparation of unit dose syringes, chemotherapy medications, and compounding of solutions/medications used in the critical care and OR satellite areas. Maintains adequate stock levels in assigned areas. Provides drug information and patient education (under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist). Completes assigned projects that may include staff education and clinical data collection and analysis.

Work Experience

  • Experience as a pharmacy technician Preferred


Licenses and Certifications

  • PHRMTECH-R - Registered Pharmacy Technician Registration with the Georgia State Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician Upon Hire Required or

  • RPI - Reg Pharmacy Intern Registration with the Georgia State Board of Pharmacy as an Intern Upon Hire Required
