Job summary

Piedmont Columbus Northside is seeking a Pharmacy Intern, PRN to assist pharmacists in drug preparation, documentation, and compounding for patients and staff. The role includes familiarization with dosages and preparations for pediatric to geriatric populations under standard procedures.

The intern will assist with IV admixtures, unit-dose syringes, and chemotherapy compounding in critical care and OR areas, while maintaining stock and providing patient education under supervision.

Qualifications

  • Education: student enrolled in an accredited school or college of pharmacy.
  • Work Experience: experience as a pharmacy technician preferred.
  • Licenses and Certifications: GA PHRMTECH-R or GA RPI registrations with the Georgia State Board of Pharmacy required upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the pharmacist with procurement, distribution, documentation, and compounding of drugs and equipment.
  • Prepare IV admixtures including unit-dose syringes and chemotherapy, under supervision.
  • Maintain stock levels and provide drug information and patient education; support staff education and data collection.

Pharmacy Intern, PRN
Overview:

Performs duties to assist the pharmacist in the procurement, distribution, documentation, and compounding related to drugs, solutions, and equipment to meet the needs of patients and staff. Responsible for being familiar with dosages and volumes of medications and solutions associated with infant, pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric patients as it relates to medication compounding and dispensing. Functions in accordance with standard written procedures, guidelines, and state and federal regulations. Responsible as assigned for the admixtures of medications to IV solutions including but not limited to the preparation of unit dose syringes, chemotherapy medications, and compounding of solutions/medications used in the critical care and OR satellite areas. Maintains adequate stock levels in assigned areas. Provides drug information and patient education (under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist). Completes assigned projects that may include staff education and clinical data collection and analysis.

  • A student currently enrolled in , or acceptance to, an accredited school or college of pharmacy Required
Work Experience
  • Experience as a pharmacy technician Preferred
Licenses and Certifications
  • PHRMTECH-R - Registered Pharmacy Technician Registration with the Georgia State Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician Upon Hire Required or
  • RPI - Reg Pharmacy Intern Registration with the Georgia State Board of Pharmacy as an Intern Upon Hire Required
