Job summary

Avera Long Term Care Pharmacy is seeking a Pharmacy Technician in Training to assist in drug preparation, storage, distribution, inventory management, and patient education under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist.

Responsibilities include preparing labels and prescriptions, communicating with nursing staff and physicians, maintaining records for accreditations, and supporting clerical duties to ensure a safe, efficient medication delivery system; applicants must be in or entering

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Pharmacy tech in training within 30 days or pharmacy intern within 30 days.
• Must be eligible for board pre-pharmacy or pharmacy intern status (P1–P4) within 30 days.

Responsibilities

• Under pharmacist supervision, inputs and/or prepares labels and packages inpatient or outpatient medication orders and prescriptions to maintain an efficient, accurate delivery system.
• Communicates with nursing staff, physicians, customers, co-workers, supervisors, and management; participates in interdepartmental groups to promote high-quality communication and prevent patient harm.
• Demonstrates knowledge of medications, calculations, regulations, PPE, and promotes patient safety to ensure quality care and compliance.
• Performs clerical functions such as billing and pharmacy inventory to promote an efficient system.
• Assists with collection and maintenance of records for the Pharmacy Department and accreditations (e.g., URAC, Joint Commission, OSHA) as required by law or policy.
• Under pharmacist supervision, obtains patient medication histories and provides education to improve adherence and outcomes.
