This is a Part-Time, 10 Hours Weekly position with the Department of Health - Board of Pharmacy. For more information on the Department of Health, please visit https://doh.sd.gov/licensing-and-records/boards/pharmacy/ .

The Inspector for the South Dakota State Board of Pharmacy is responsible for overseeing and conducting inspections at pharmacies and wholesalers located in South Dakota. The inspector is responsible for complaint investigations received by the Board. The inspector will report to the Board of Pharmacy, Executive Director of the Board, and Department of Health.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Work with Board Staff to schedule and conduct inspections, maintain records of inspections and monitor compliance with recommendations.
  2. Uses management and leadership skills to ensure efficient, effective and responsible practices while using Board resources to schedule and conduct meaningful inspections.
  3. Conduct investigations to complaints received by the Board.
  4. Assist the office in approving licenses, responding to questions from licensees, recommending updates to Administrative Rules and preparing reports of activities.
  5. Provides presentations to pharmacists and pharmacy technicians on pharmacy regulations.
  6. Assist the PDMP staff in educating pharmacists and prescribers on proper use of program data to improve patient care.

This position requires the candidate to be able to travel throughout the state with some overnight stays and some out of state travel. This position requires the candidate to work on a computer the majority of the time.

Licenses and Certifications: The successful applicant must be licensed as a pharmacist in good standing by the South Dakota Board of Pharmacy

The Ideal Candidate Will Have: Work experience in various types of pharmacy settings.

Knowledge:

  • complex federal and state pharmacy laws, rules and regulations in order to monitor for compliance and to assist licensees in their efforts toward compliance;
  • various pharmacy settings, ie inpatient pharmacy, retail pharmacy, and compounding.

Skills:

  • use common computer skills and use of various software such as Excel, Word, and Power Point;
  • excellent verbal and written communication skills.

This position is exempt from the Civil Service Act.

This position is eligible for Veterans' Preference per ARSD 55:10:02:08.
