General Summary

The Pharmacy Benefits Specialist manages drug claim adjudication issues, prescription prior authorizations, and pharmacy benefit inquiries from members, patients, physicians, pharmacies, and internal staff. They are experts in resolving pharmacy benefit coverage issues and coordinating prior authorization and exception processes.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

• Conduct benefits investigations, handle prescription prior authorizations, and research financial assistance to ensure patient access to medications.
• Interpret patient treatment plans and medical notes to facilitate care.
• Address pharmacy-related inquiries such as financial barriers and therapy management outcomes, communicating with nursing, providers, social workers, and physicians about potential barriers.
• Complete all steps during order entry to ensure accurate and timely processing, maintaining high customer service standards.
• Order prescriptions online and submit to pharmacies.

Education and Experience Requirements

• High school diploma or G.E.D.; Associate's degree preferred.
• State of Michigan Pharmacy Technician License required.
