Job summary

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle is seeking a Pharmacy Assistant - Retail to join our pharmacy team at the South Lake Union Campus. You will work under the supervision of a pharmacist performing technical tasks including processing refills, returns to stock, and point-of-sale transactions.

This temporary full-time role features rotating shifts and provides a pathway to our Pharmacy Technician Training program, with licensure eligibility targeted for Spring 2028.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• State of Washington Pharmacy Assistant License.
• Ability to communicate verbally in person, on the phone, and in writing in a clear, concise, and professional manner.
• Ability to use pharmacy point of sale systems in an accurate and efficient manner.

Responsibilities

• Provide good customer service by being attentive at the pharmacy window and responding quickly to problems.
• Review and monitor patient tickets in the pharmacy's virtual waiting list and update prescription status.
• Dispense prescriptions and OTC medications via POS, referring to a pharmacist when counseling is needed.
• Process credit cards, handle cash and check payments.
• Complete return to stock of prescriptions and restock shelves.
• Assist patients with online processing of prescription refills including billing.
• Triage incoming phone calls relating to medications.
• Coordinate dispensing of medications related to a research study with Investigation Drug Services Pharmacy.
• Direct clinical inquiries requiring a pharmacist's professional judgment to a pharmacist.
• Assist in training of pharmacy technicians, apprentices, and interns.
• Complete other pharmacy related duties in accordance with Washington State Pharmacy Quality Assurance Commission regulations.
