Job Description

To work in the pharmacy under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist and assist in pharmacy activities not requiring the professional judgment of the pharmacist. Work areas include, but are not limited to, filling unit doses, repackaging, billing, maintaining inventory, and filling stock requests.

Job Responsibilities

1. Repackages and labels: Non-sterile and sterile products, including extemporaneous doses as instructed on the batch record by the pharmacist. Utilizes aseptic technique when handling sterile product preparation.
2. Stocks the robot: Based on the generated daily inventory report.
3. Repackages unit doses: For the robotic system.
4. Maintains inventory control: In all work areas, completes alert and reorder forms when required, fills floor stock requisitions from patient care areas, processes charges to the appropriate cost centers, receives deliveries from wholesalers and vendors, and checks medication expiration dates.
5. Prepares and fills: Unit dose cassettes for pharmacist review and dispensing.
6. Manages supplies: Inventories, requisitions, stocks supplies from central supply, maintains IV solution inventory, fills oncology satellite requisitions, and delivers alcohol.
7. Replaces OR trays: For specialty areas such as open heart and Uris.
8. Refills medications: For emergency drug units like open heart trays and code cart trays.
9. Maintains work area: Keeps the workspace neat and organized, routinely cleans the work area, and follows proper disposal procedures.
10. Delivers stock: To patient care areas.
11. Performs duties in emergencies: Such as sick call coverage, vacant position coverage, workload adjustments, and projects.
12. Handles controlled drugs: Inventories, prepares for dispensing, and delivers to the appropriate area as required.
13. Performs related duties: As required.

Job Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent; Associates' degree preferred.
• Completion of a technician training program required.
• Certified Technician required.
• Two years of technician experience required.
• Experience in sterile product preparation required.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
