Job summary

Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic in Kennewick, WA is hiring a Pharmacy Assistant to support patient access to medications and pharmacy services. This role handles clerical tasks, customer service, and medication support to ensure accurate, timely, and safe pharmacy operations and a positive patient experience.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• At least 1 year in pharmacy assistant, office, admin, patient care or customer service.
• State registration required within 60 days (or active Pharmacy Intern License).
• Bilingual English/Spanish required.
• Strong verbal and listening communication with customer focus.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Experience with phones, filing, faxing, scanning, copying.
• Teamwork in fast-paced environments.
• Organizational and multi-tasking skills with attention to detail.
• Basic MS Office proficiency.
• Knowledge of at least one pharmacy software system.

Responsibilities

• Answers the phone, answers non-professional inquiries and transfers calls to appropriate staff.
• Enters patient data and billing information in the system including patient name, insurance, allergies, doctor and diagnosis.
• Delivers prescription to the patient verifying correct medication is provided; collects payment and signature.
• Coordinates prescription counseling by the Pharmacist as needed.
• Maintains stock levels and enters order for restocking based on defined minimum inventory levels.
• Verifies product orders received with invoice and purchase order; places a sticker on each item and shelves it.
• Monitors and checks expiration dates on drugs in stock.
• Returns or discards dispensed prescription to stock if not picked up by patient; enters information for reverse billing as allowed by state regulations.
• Processes prescription refills verifying refill availability as allowed by state regulations.
• Completes third party billing form and contacts Provider for prior authorization as allowed by state regulations.
• Performs clinical responsibilities in alignment with The Joint Commission (TJC), HRSA and YVFWC requirements.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Position Highlights

• 1.0 FTE (40 hours per week)
• $19.69-$24.12/hour DOE with the ability to go higher for highly experienced candidates

What You'll Do

• Answers the phone, answers non-professional level inquiries and transfers calls to appropriate staff
• Enters patient data and billing information in the system including patient name, insurance, allergies, doctor and diagnosis
• Delivers prescription to the patient verifying correct medication is provided. Collects payment and signature from the patient

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED
• One year of pharmacy assistant, office, administrative, patient care or customer service experience
• Pharmacy Assistant state registration required within 60 days of hire (or active Pharmacy Intern License)
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) speaking skills required at a level 9
• Effective verbal and listening communication skills with a customer-oriented approach
• Knowledge of medical terminology
• Ability to perform administrative tasks such as answering phones, filing, faxing, scanning and copying
• Ability to work as part of a team in a fast paced environment
• Ability to organize work while performing multiple tasks requiring attention to detail
• Basic proficiency with a variety of computer systems including Microsoft Office preferred
• Basic knowledge of a minimum of one pharmacy software system preferred

This job will require a pre-employment drug screen which would take place after extending a conditional offer of employment
