Job summary

The Cancer & Hematology Centers seeks a PRN Pharmacist to support IV infusion and retail operations across CHC locations. Duties include clinical services, inventory management, and compliance with pharmacy standards.

Ideal candidates hold a PharmD or BS in Pharmacy with state licensure and oncology experience. This role is non-benefit and weekdays only, with assignments across LHCP, Kenmoor, Holland, and Muskegon.

Qualifications

  • Education: B.S. in Pharmacy or PharmD and active state licensure.
  • Oncology and supportive therapies and/or drug research experience desired.
  • PRN Pharmacist role at LHCP location; non-benefit.

Responsibilities

  • Provides pharmacist services to IV infusion clinic and licensed retail pharmacies within each site location.
  • Check physician orders for appropriateness and completeness based on protocols and patient history (IV and oral medications).
  • Provide pharmacy-based expertise in drug selection, administration, monitoring, reporting of adverse reactions, drug stability, information and therapeutic monitoring (IV and oral).
  • Supervise technician preparation of all medications and solutions; supervise retail technicians in dispensing.
  • Coordinate pharmacy programs including investigational medications and remote site programs, and record-keeping.
  • Maintain medication inventory for just-in-time supply and cost-effective sourcing.
  • Oversee pharmacy technician staff and task assignment.
  • Collaborate with management to enhance workflow within the cancer center.

Job Description
Pharmacist
General Summary

Responsible in the operations (IV infusion and retail), providing clinical resources to patients and staff and inventory of the pharmacy. Assures pharmacy products quality and compliance with legal pharmacy standards. Supervises technicians in the preparation of sterile IV administration, retail pharmacy dispensing, and daily maintenance of pharmacy. Provides clinical pharmacy services through drug information, billing assistance, patient education, and to the professional staff.

*This is a PRN Pharmacist role working at LHCP location. This role is non-benefit). This role will also work in other CHC locations (Kenmoor, Holland, and Muskegon). The days to work is Monday to Friday. No weekends or holidays.

Desired/Required Qualifications

Education: Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy. Appropriate state pharmacy licensure. Experience: Oncology and supportive therapies and/or drug research is desired.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
  1. Provides pharmacist services to IV infusion clinic and to the licensed retail pharmacies within each site location.
  2. Check physician orders for appropriateness and completeness based on knowledge of protocols, regimens and patient history. Review original orders or initiate review of original orders by RN if orders are inappropriate or incomplete (IV and oral medications)
  3. Provide pharmacy based expertise in to drug selection process, drug administration process, monitoring and reporting of adverse reactions, drug stability, drug information and therapeutic monitoring (IV and oral medications)
  4. Supervise technician preparation of all medications and solutions assuring use of appropriate and safe technique, accurate selection of ingredients, and inspection of product before dispensing. Supervise retail technicians in proper dispensing of outpatient pharmacy prescriptions.
  5. Coordinate pharmacy programs including investigational medication programs, remote site medication programs, and prescription record keeping and storage processes complying with state and federal pharmacy standards.
  6. Maintain medication inventory to assure adequate supply for a just in time inventory system and cost effective source of medications.
  7. Oversee pharmacy technician staff assuring optimal employee performance and individual task assignment.
  8. Function as a team member by expanding his/her responsibilities as directed by management to facilitate optimal workflow within the cancer center.
