Job summary

Barrington James is partnering with an established independent compounding pharmacy in Northern Virginia to recruit a Pharmacist in Charge who will oversee two locations, ensure regulatory compliance under USP 795/800, and lead day-to-day operations.

This hands-on leadership role requires an active Virginia pharmacist licence (or eligibility), PIC or equivalent experience, and a proven ability to manage staff, workflows, and inspection readiness in a growing, owner-led setting.

Qualifications

• Active Virginia pharmacist licence, or eligible.
• PIC or pharmacy leadership experience.
• Non-sterile compounding with USP 795/800 knowledge.
• Experience with audits and compliance in a community setting.
• Experience in independent/community pharmacy with technicians.

Responsibilities

• Partner with ownership on growth, new services, and compounding automation.

Job description

We are currently supporting an established independent compounding pharmacy in Northern Virginia that is looking to engage a Pharmacist in Charge.

The pharmacy runs non-sterile compounding across two locations under USP 795 797 and USP 800, with a loyal patient base, an owner-led team, and new investment in formulation technology. The PIC holds the licence and runs the floor: verification, compounding oversight, staff, compliance, and day-to-day operations. Monday to Friday, no weekends.

This is not a retail chain PIC role. This is a hands-on leadership seat in a growing independent pharmacy, for a pharmacist who wants to lead a team.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Pharmacist in Charge and license holder for the pharmacy under the Virginia Board of Pharmacy
• Lead day-to-day pharmacy operations, workflow, and staffing across two locations
• Oversee non-sterile compounding under USP <795> and USP <800>, including formulation, documentation, and quality checks
• Manage, schedule, and develop pharmacists and compounding technicians
• Own inspection readiness, SOPs, and Board of Pharmacy compliance

• Partner with ownership on growth, new services, and compounding automation

Required Experience

• Active Virginia pharmacist licence, or eligibility
• Pharmacy leadership experience, PIC or equivalent
• Hands-on non-sterile compounding experience with working knowledge of USP <795> and USP <800>
• Community or independent pharmacy experience, including working with technicians
• Board of Pharmacy inspection and compliance experience
• Comfortable leading from the floor in an owner-led, growing business
