This role interprets and verifies physician medication orders, leads quality assurance and medication safety initiatives, supervises pharmacy staff, and maintains strict adherence to regulatory standards and best practices in a sterile compounding environment.

Pharmacist in Charge

The Pharmacist in Charge oversees all aspects of sterile compounding pharmacy operations, ensuring safe, accurate, and compliant preparation of medications. This role interprets and verifies physician medication orders, leads quality assurance and medication safety initiatives, supervises pharmacy staff, and maintains strict adherence to regulatory standards and best practices in a sterile compounding environment.

Responsibilities
  • Interpret, verify, and process physician medication orders to ensure accuracy, appropriateness, and safety for each patient.
  • Perform and oversee hazardous and non-hazardous sterile compounding in full compliance with USP and USP standards.
  • Conduct final verification of compounded sterile preparations before they are dispensed.
  • Review medication profiles for safety, allergies, drug interactions, dosing accuracy, and compatibility.
  • Collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to support optimal patient care.
  • Supervise, mentor, and support staff pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and other pharmacy support personnel.
  • Maintain cleanroom standards, aseptic technique, and environmental monitoring to ensure a safe and compliant sterile compounding environment.
  • Manage all aspects of quality assurance, including medication safety programs, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain and audit compounding, batch, quality, and regulatory documentation to ensure accurate records and compliance.
  • Oversee inventory management, including controlled substances, and ensure efficient and compliant pharmacy operations.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain pharmacy policies and procedures, as well as staff training programs.
  • Lead and actively participate in staff meetings to communicate updates, address issues, and promote best practices.
  • Adhere to regulatory and internal compliance requirements, including OSHA, DEA, State Board of Pharmacy regulations, and organizational policies and procedures.
  • Follow all safety regulations by consistently utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) while performing job duties and working in designated areas.
Essential Skills
  • Active Florida Pharmacist license in good standing.
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience with hazardous and non-hazardous sterile compounding in compliance with USP, USP, DEA, OSHA, and Board of Pharmacy regulations.
  • Demonstrated experience in sterile compounding within oncology, infusion, hospital pharmacy, or similar settings.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively interact with healthcare providers and pharmacy staff.
  • Proven leadership abilities to supervise and mentor pharmacists, technicians, and support staff.
  • Ability to work safely and effectively in a sterile compounding environment, including adherence to aseptic technique.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to manage multiple responsibilities and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Pharmacy management experience overseeing operations, inventory, and compliance.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience in oncology infusion pharmacy practice.
  • Background in hospital pharmacy or infusion oncology settings.
  • Familiarity with medication safety programs and quality assurance processes.
  • Comfort working with controlled substances in a highly regulated environment.
  • Ability to contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in pharmacy operations.
  • Skill in leading staff meetings and promoting a collaborative team culture.
Work Environment

This role is based in a sterile compounding pharmacy environment, working as part of a small, focused team of approximately 2-3 people, including the Pharmacist in Charge and a Compounding Technician. The position is primarily a first-shift compounding role, offering a structured schedule. Work is performed in a cleanroom setting with strict aseptic technique and environmental monitoring requirements. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is required at all times in designated areas to ensure safety when handling hazardous and non-hazardous medications. The environment emphasizes collaboration, quality, and regulatory compliance, and offers full benefits and a supportive team culture.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Lake Butler, FL.

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $150000.00 - $220000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
