Job summary

Incyte Corporation in Wilmington, DE is seeking an experienced Patent Agent to manage US patent prosecution for pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical technologies. You will draft, file, and prosecute patent applications and coordinate with USPTO and outside counsel to secure broad protection.

You will provide strategic guidance on filing, inventorship, and IP issues, while developing an in-depth understanding of the company’s products and workflows to support business objectives.

Qualifications

• Registered Patent Agent in good standing to practice before the USPTO.
• Ph.D. or Master’s degree in a relevant pharmaceutical/biopharmaceutical field.
• At least 3 years of in-house and/or private practice experience as a patent agent.
• Demonstrated experience in preparation, prosecution and management of US patent portfolios.
• Strong understanding of USPTO rules and regulations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to provide strategic guidance.

Responsibilities

• Manage preparation, filing, prosecution and maintenance of US patent applications and patents.
• Provide strategic guidance on filing and USPTO issues including inventorship and conception.
• Assist in protecting assets with valid US patents.
• Support USPTO proceedings such as IPR, post grant, re-examinations and appeals.
• Design and conduct patent prior art searches using specialized databases.
• Review literature and file wrappers for relevant subject matter.
• Advise on filing US patent applications to protect company interests from internal or external collaborations.
• Produce patent status and docket reports.
• Collaborate with outside US patent counsel to coordinate USPTO activities.
• Develop understanding of the business and work with internal clients to guide IP strategies.
• Establish relationships with business units to encourage use of in-house IP services.
