Job summary

Eurofins USA PSS Insourcing Solutions is hiring an Associate Scientist to support laboratory work in synthesizing salt forms and polymorphs of drug candidates at our Groton, CT site. You will perform solid state and particle characterization and collaborate with teams to advance screening activities for clinical studies.

The role requires a BS with experience or an MS/PhD in pharmaceutical science or related fields, with strong analytical skills and a willingness to learn new technologies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with 2+ years or MS/PhD in pharmaceutical science, chemistry, chemical engineering, or related field.
• Experience in solid state characterization techniques (XRD, microscopy, DSC, TGA, spectroscopy, etc.).
• Experience with infrared spectroscopy and/or SSNMR is an advantage.
• Experience solving Materials Science problems using experimental approaches and teamwork.
• Strong understanding of physical, analytical, and organic chemistry.
• Good organizational, independent work, and excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Interest in learning new technologies and concepts; some programming is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Conduct solid state characterization (XRD, thermal analysis, moisture sorption, microscopy, spectroscopy) of small molecules.
• Support cross-functional teams to define crystallization, polymorph, salt, and co-crystal screening activities.
• Support API particle characterization activities according to project timelines.
• Characterize powders (particle size/shape) and surface properties (energy, roughness).
• Collaborate with Medicinal Chemistry, Formulation and Biopharmaceutics for solid form strategies.
• Solve scientific problems using contemporary Materials Science techniques.
• Contribute to developing new scientific approaches within Materials Science.
• Maintain accurate electronic lab notebook entries following good practice.
