Job summary

Automated Systems, Inc. (ASI) is seeking a hands-on Facilities Project Manager / Site Engineer to lead building modifications and laboratory construction for a pharmaceutical client in Round Lake, Illinois.

This role combines project management with daily field coordination, driving design, approvals, construction, and turnover while coordinating the landlord, architecture/engineering team, QA, and contractors in a shared facility.

Qualifications

• Experience managing facility renovations or laboratory construction in regulated environments.
• Strong field experience coordinating multiple trades within an operating facility.
• Ability to read drawings and identify coordination issues across trades.
• Familiarity with GMP environments, change control, and project turnover.
• Experience with site safety programs, permits-to-work, and contractor safety.

Responsibilities

• Own and maintain the integrated project schedule including design, approvals, and turnover.
• Serve as primary day-to-day interface with landlord, A&E, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
• Coordinate design reviews to ensure site requirements are addressed before construction.
• Provide daily field coordination, including site walkdowns, contractor meetings, and material deliveries.
• Verify readiness of work areas and ensure permits are in place before activities.
• Coordinate with site personnel to issue and maintain required permits.
• Reinforce safety expectations and escalate unsafe conditions.
• Coordinate utility shutdowns and construction barriers affecting operations.
• Track RFIs, submittals, changes, costs, and schedule impacts.
• Coordinate change controls and qualification activities with QA/validation.
• Report project status including budget, risks, and decisions needed.
• Drive punch-list completion and turnover with as-built documentation.
