Job summary

Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) is dedicated to protecting and promoting the health of Virginians. The VDH is made up of a statewide Central Office in Richmond and 35 local health districts. The Carroll County Health Department is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our team. In this role, you will independently provide professional nursing care in a variety of settings, including clinics, homes, schools, and other community or congregate environments. Responsibilities include conducting nursing assessments, performing select laboratory tests and measurements, and developing and implementing individualized care plans. This position also involves administering medications, providing case management, and ensuring that every patient receives high quality, evidence based care. Our ideal candidate is a licensed RN who is eager to support community well being and contribute to public health initiatives. You will participate in local public health emergency responses, assist with community health assessments, and help strengthen population level health outcomes. The position may include supervising support staff, requiring strong communication, organizational skills, and a commitment to collaborative teamwork. Minimum Qualifications
  • Communicates verbally and in writing, to analyze problems, situations and suggest solutions, leadership, follow directions and establish priorities
  • Skills in physical examination, health assessment, and interviewing and counseling technique
  • Ability to function independently, prioritize and organize work, solve problems, adapt to change, function as a team member and relate to the public
  • Knowledge of public health concepts, principles of public health nursing, principles of epidemiology; immunizations; basic nursing science, medical terminology, case management
  • May travel and some weekend and/or evening hours may be required
  • Must be certified in Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR
Additional Considerations
  • Additional study in health promotion/or public health is preferred
  • Experience in a public health setting or one related to disease prevention and health promotion
