Job summary

Iberia Medical Center in New Iberia, LA is seeking a Patient Financial Services (PFS) Support II – Financial Counselor to join our team and help manage patient billing before discharge.

The role handles co-payments and deductibles, determines outstanding debts, prepares NB claims, assists patients with billing questions and Medicaid applications, and supports the Cashier and Patient Accounts teams. Strong communication and attention to detail are essential.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• 2-3 years hospital Business Office experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Determine co-payments and deductibles due from in-house patients and collect payments prior to discharge.
• Identify and request payment on outstanding debts owed to the hospital.
• Enter newborn Medicaid subscriber numbers and prepare NB claims to bill.
• Assist patients with billing issues or questions on accounts and Medicaid applications as necessary.
• Back up Cashier and Patient Accounts as needed; handle patient complaints promptly.

IMC is currently hiring a Patient Financial Services (PFS) Support II- Financial Counselorposition. The Financial Counselor determines any/all co-payments and deductibles that are due from in-house’ patients and requests such payments from them prior to their discharge. Also determines any/all outstanding debts owed to hospital, and includes these amounts in requests for payment Including Cosmetic procedure processes and explanation of possible claim denial to patients. Secondary duties include giving estimates to patients, physician offices, etc. Following hospital policies and procedures, enters in Newborn Medicaid subscriber #’s and gets NB claims ready to bill, assists patients as they come in with billing issues or questions on accounts, assists patients with Medicaid applications as necessary backs up Cashier and Patient Account Rep as needed. Handles patient complaints in a timely manner as they are received.

EDUCATION

• High School Graduate or equivalent

TRAINING/EXPERIENCE

• 2-3years previous hospital Business Office experience preferred

WORK HOURS:

• 8:30 a.m. to5:00 p. m., Monday through Friday.
