Job summary

The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) is seeking an Environmental Analyst IV to lead the PFAS Branch within the BWSC in Worcester. The role will supervise staff, oversee site management and PFAS-related cleanup actions, and report to the PFAS Section Chief.

The position requires deep knowledge of the Massachusetts Contingency Plan, risk assessment, and environmental policy, with duties spanning enforcement, reporting, and public engagement to protect public health

Qualifications

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Massachusetts Contingency Plan (310 CMR 40.0000) and related statutes and regulations.
  • Substantial experience investigating and assessing contamination and environmental fate.
  • Experience in project management, organizing, prioritizing complex projects.
  • Experience in sampling, analysis, and field screening techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Site Manager on Direct Oversight sites and Immediate Response Actions; manage large and complex sites; identify risk reduction measures.
  • Review and approve complex assessment and remediation plans, technical reports and analytical data.
  • Write, review and coordinate correspondence, memoranda and enforcement documents.
  • Provide information on applicability of regulations to regulated community.
  • Supervise and train staff; assign projects; conduct performance reviews.
  • Oversee staff for office and field activities; coordinate with residents and contractors.
  • Maintain communication on project status and timelines; ensure proper records.
