Job summary

City of Farmington is seeking an Intake Prevention Specialist at the Animal Shelter to provide excellent customer service and resources to residents. The role aims to reunite pets with families and prevent shelter intake by guiding owners to keep pets at home.

The position supports policy development, data analysis of intake trends, and collaboration with the Parks & Recreation department. Flexible hours and on-site work at the animal shelter are expected.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent; associates or bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Must communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with superiors, colleagues, and the public.
• Two years of customer service/retail or social services experience required.
• Ability to handle difficult people and situations with respect and courtesy.
• Ability to perform data entry and operate office tools and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Provide excellent customer service and resources to residents to prevent shelter intake.
• Problem-solve with owners to help keep pets at home or facilitate rehoming when needed.
• Maintain knowledge of community resources and animal care standards to advise owners.
• Educate pet owners and refer to outside resources when appropriate.
• Develop SOPs for intake programs and track outcomes for monthly reports.
• Handle cash register duties and assist in daily revenue close-outs.
• Perform data entry into shelter software and maintain records.
