Job summary

National Veterinary Associates (NVA) is seeking a hands-on Assistant General Manager for the Doggie District – Mesa resort in Mesa, Arizona. You’ll partner with the General Manager to run day-to-day operations, develop the team, and deliver outstanding care for pets and their people.

Lead with NVA values to foster a positive culture, drive revenue and manage costs, oversee staffing and training, and maintain safety and facility standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• 2–4 years of customer service experience; leadership experience is a plus.
• Strong communication and teamwork leadership abilities.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and POS systems.
• Able to work up to 45–50 hours per week including evenings and weekends.
• Valid driver's license, insurance, and a vehicle for pet transport in emergencies.
• Ability to support and influence workplace change.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop shifts, modeling NVA values and leadership competencies.
• Coach Shift Leads and team members to build capability and confidence.
• Ensure smooth operations, strong pet care, and customer service.
• Maintain staffing plans, scheduling, and labor guideline adherence.
• Resolve customer concerns with empathy and professionalism.
• Oversee daily audits, checklists, and end-of-shift reporting across departments.
• Partner with GM on recruiting, onboarding, and training.
