Job summary

Petco is seeking a Pet Stylist Apprentice to provide professional grooming services, including bathing, drying, brushing, haircuts, nail trimming, and more. You’ll prioritize pet safety and customer satisfaction while following grooming standards.

The role requires completion of the Pet Stylist Apprentice program or equivalent grooming training, with a high‑school diploma preferred. Weekend availability is required in this team‑oriented environment.

Qualifications

• Completion of Pet Stylist Apprentice program with Petco, or equivalent grooming training.
• High-school diploma or GED preferred.
• Ability to assess coat types, health, and breed standards to tailor grooming.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional grooming services: bathing, drying, brushing, haircuts, styling, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and gland cleaning.
• Operate and maintain grooming instruments (clippers, blades, shears, brushes, dryers).
• Prioritize pet safety and well‑being, monitor for discomfort or illness, report concerns to owners and management.
• Assess individual pet needs, coat type, skin conditions, and temperament; adjust grooming approach accordingly.
• Interact with pet parents professionally, offer grooming recommendations, and resolve questions.
• Educate owners on grooming maintenance and at‑home care practices and products.
• Maintain a clean, safe grooming area and sanitize tools and equipment.
• Follow Petco policies to ensure safety, quality and consistency; train/supervise trainees when needed.
