Job Summary
PetSmart’s Salon Experience Lead (Groomer & Salon Trainer) is responsible for providing exceptional service to pet parents and supporting a high performing team while upholding the company’s vision, mission, values, and strategy. This role will deliver professional quality services with the utmost focus on quality and care of pets. The Salon Experience Lead will support the development of bathers and new stylists, guiding them through the entire pet stylist development program.
Essential Responsibilities
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following and may vary depending on store characteristics and needs:
People Leadership:
- Facilitates the associate experience and supports associate development, including training, onboarding, mentoring, coaching, performance reviews, disciplinary actions, and promotions.
- Develops new and existing associates through bather and stylist certification processes.
- Identifies internal candidates for stylist training programs.
- Delegates and verifies completion of daily salon tasks.
- Addresses associate complaints and grievances.
- Recognizes and celebrates associates to promote engagement.
Salon and Overall Store Experience:
- Ensures excellent pet parent interactions over phone, in person, or online, addressing concerns effectively.
- Supports pet parents, answers questions, and recommends wellness solutions based on pet needs.
- Engages with pet parents at checkout to encourage rebooking and promote marketing promotions.
- Uses salon tools to make reservations and follow up on appointments.
- Maintains store standards, ensuring policies and procedures are followed, and fosters a culture of empowerment.
- Performs grooming services including baths, brushes, nails, teeth, and sanitary services according to standards.
- Promotes salon sales and helps meet sales targets and metrics.
- Maintains cleanliness, sanitation, and humane conditions in the grooming area.
- Acts promptly if a sick or injured pet is identified, including transport to vet if necessary.
- Communicates business trends and best practices to the Experience Leader.
- Reports facility or supply needs.
- Recommends and sells services and merchandise.
- Supports other departments as needed. Other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications
- At least 2 years grooming experience; may require technical exam.
- Full-time availability, flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, holidays.
- Proficient with grooming tools, equipment, and products, ensuring safety.
- Proficient in computer applications.
- Strong communication skills in writing and speaking.
- Ability to stay calm under pressure.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail and safety.
Supervisory Responsibility
- No direct reports, but supports and guides other associates’ development.
- Provides performance feedback to supervisor.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Requires standing, walking, climbing, and using hands; frequent reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, talking, hearing; vision for depth perception. Accommodations available for disabilities.
- Must lift/move up to 50 lbs frequently, more than 100 lbs occasionally with team assistance. Exposure to mechanical parts, wet environment, pet hair, moderate to high noise, and live animals.
