Job Summary
PetSmart’s Salon Experience Lead (Groomer & Salon Trainer) is responsible for providing exceptional service to pet parents and supporting a high performing team while upholding the company’s vision, mission, values, and strategy. This role will deliver professional quality services with the utmost focus on quality and care of pets. The Salon Experience Lead will support the development of bathers and new stylists, guiding them through the entire pet stylist development program.
Essential Responsibilities
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following and may vary depending on store characteristics and needs:
People Leadership:
- Facilitates the associate experience and supports associate development. This includes training, onboarding, mentoring, coaching, providing feedback in performance reviews, disciplinary actions, and promotions.
- Responsible for developing new and existing associates through bather and/or stylist certification processes.
- Identifies internal candidates for stylist training programs.
- Delegates and verifies completion of daily salon tasks.
- Addresses and manages associate complaints and grievances.
- Recognizes and celebrates associates to boost engagement.
Salon and Store Experience:
- Ensures positive pet parent interactions over phone, in person, or online, and addresses concerns.
- Greets pet parents, answers questions, and recommends wellness solutions.
- Engages with pet parents during checkout to foster connection and rebooking.
- Promotes marketing promotions and drives salon sales.
- Uses salon tools effectively, including booking systems and call logs.
- Maintains store standards, ensuring compliance with policies and ethical practices.
- Performs full grooming services and standalone services like nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary services, following PetSmart standards.
- Supports salon sales growth and productivity targets.
- Maintains cleanliness, sanitation, and humane conditions for all pets.
- Acts promptly on sick or injured pets, including vet transport if needed.
- Communicates with leadership about business trends and best practices.
- Reports facility or supply needs.
- Recommends, informs, and sells services and products.
- Supports other departments as needed; other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years grooming experience; may require technical exam.
- Full-time availability; flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Proficiency with grooming tools, equipment, and products, adhering to safety standards.
- Proficiency in computer applications.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to perform under pressure and stay composed.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and safety awareness.
Supervisory Responsibility:
- No direct reports; supports and guides other associates' development.
- Provides performance feedback to supervisors.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Requires standing, walking, ladder climbing, and manual handling. Vision and sensory abilities are essential.
- Frequently lift/move up to 50 lbs; occasionally over 100 lbs with team assistance.
- Exposure to mechanical parts, wet environments, pet hair, and moderate noise; handling live animals is common.
