Qualifications

  • Provides clinical nuclear medicine services according to practice standards.
  • Performs patient care and ensures exams are efficient and safe.
  • Demonstrates competence in sending images to PACS.
  • Demonstrates venipuncture techniques for intravenous radionuclides.
  • Maintains ALARA radiation exposure and patient safety.

Responsibilities

  • Provides clinical services according to nuclear medicine practice standards and acts as a resource to radiography students and other technologists to ensure optimal patient care and efficient departmental operations.
  • Performs excellent patient care. Recognizes clinical and emergent problems that may interfere with exams and take appropriate action to resolve them and produce the most desirable outcome.
  • Demonstrates competence in correctly sending images to PACS.
  • Demonstrates a thorough understanding of venipuncture techniques and practices for the administration of intravenous radionuclides.
  • Demonstrates a thorough understanding of nuclear medicine principles and theory, anatomy, positioning, and technique for obtaining optimal imaging studies. Demonstrates radiation protection and safety for patients and staff as outlined in department protocols and regulatory guidelines.
  • Maintains radiation exposure reading within the ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) limits.
  • Demonstrates patient safety by use of guard rails, breaking mechanisms, shielding, and patient monitoring.
  • Assists physicians in the performance of various studies using standard department protocols and appropriate radiation protection and infection control procedures.
  • Adheres to department policies and protocols to ensure that all studies are optimized for interpretation.
  • Completes ancillary tasks to ensure efficient and consistent departmental operations. Identifies correctly patients and files to ensure a high degree of accuracy.
  • Enters written and electronic data accurately in comments to provide all pertinent data to radiologists to assist in the interpretation of imaging studies as evidenced by written documentation.
  • Acts as a department liaison by communicating with doctors offices new PET/CT scan technologies, and provides follow up to any questions they may have.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
