Job summary

The Gateway Region YMCA is seeking a part-time fitness professional to implement individualized exercise programs and assess client readiness. You will design prescriptions, instruct movements safely, and track progress for diverse clients.

Responsibilities include coaching clients to set goals, motivating adherence, and supervising workouts to minimize risk. A high school diploma is required, with a college degree in Exercise Science preferred and an active NCCA certification.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or higher; college degree preferred in exercise science or related field.
• Minimum 6 months of experience developing exercise prescriptions and programming.
• Current personal trainer certification with an NCCA-accredited body.

Responsibilities

• Promotes the YMCA’s wellness philosophy through individualized exercise prescriptions.
• Screen and interview clients to assess readiness for activity.
• Conduct fitness tests to determine current fitness levels.
• Help clients set realistic goals and motivate adherence to programs.
• Develop and deliver exercise prescriptions and demonstrate techniques safely.
• Supervise and spot clients during exercises to minimize injury risk.
• Maintain records of clients’ progress and outcome measures.
• Motivate individuals to start and sustain healthy behaviors.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Description

• Promotes the YMCA’s healthy spirit, mind and body philosophy through individualized personal exercise prescriptions.
• Screen and interview potential clients to determine their readiness for exercise and physical activity.
• Perform fitness tests or assessments (as appropriate) on clients to determine their current level of fitness.
• Help clients set realistic goals and provide motivation for adherence to the program.
• Ability to develop and deliver exercise prescriptions to all clientele.
• Demonstrate and instruct specific techniques to clients for the safe and effective performance of various exercise movements by applying the fundamental principles of exercise science.
• Supervise or “spot” (physically assisting clients with an exercise that usually involves free weights or dumbbells to minimize risk of injury) clients when they are performing exercise movements.
• Maintains records of clients’ progress or lack thereof with respect to the exercise prescription
• Motivate individuals to begin and to continue healthy behaviors.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

** Level of Qualifications/Certificates can vary and will be assessed upon hire

• High School diploma up to College Degree in Exercise Science or related field preferred
• Minimum 6 months of experience, in the field or classroom, in developing exercise prescriptions/exercise
• programming and instruction.
• Currently personal trainer certified with a NCCA (National Commission for Certifying Agencies) that tests
• both theoretical knowledge and performance
• Complete YMCA courses related to Health & Wellness as assigned
