Job summary

The Gateway Region YMCA is hiring a part-time Swim Instructor to teach lessons and support members and program participants in achieving their goals. You will prepare lesson plans and help participants and families engage with YMCA programs.

You will also maintain records, follow safety procedures, supervise aides, and foster a diverse, welcoming environment for all members and participants.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years old.
• YMCA Swim Instructor certification or equivalent.
• Must demonstrate swim instructor skills per YMCA standards.

Responsibilities

• Instructs swimming lessons per YMCA guidelines and prepares lesson plans.
• Develops positive relationships with participants, volunteers, members and families; facilitates connections with the YMCA.
• Communicates aquatics program information and schedules; refers participants to other programs when appropriate.
• Maintains attendance and progress records as required.
• Follows all YMCA policies including safety and emergency procedures; completes incident reports as needed.
• Organizes and stores class equipment; reports damaged equipment.
• Trains and supervises class aides as assigned.

Description

• Instructs swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly, and supports members and program participants in achieving their goals.
• Develops and maintains positive relationships with volunteers, members or program participants, and colleagues at all levels of the organization; helps participants and families connect with each other and the YMCA; and encourages parent or caregiver involvement.
• Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate refers program participants and families to other programs.
• Maintains records as required (e.g., attendance, progress reports).
• Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
• Organizes and puts away needed class equipment. Reports damaged equipment.
• Trains and supervises class aides as assigned.
