Overview:

The Personal Trainer is responsible for performing physical assessments on members, developing personalized exercise prescriptions based on assessments and health history, orienting members to equipment and facility use, and updating exercise prescriptions as needed. They monitor participation for retention purposes and must possess excellent communication skills. They understand and practice the institutional Core Values of Dignity, Justice, Stewardship, Compassionate Service, and Excellence.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assess health history to identify risks and needs
  • Conduct fitness assessments with expertise
  • Determine when referrals to physicians or dietitians are needed
  • Create personalized exercise plans based on health assessments
  • Ensure member safety by adjusting equipment and overseeing proper use
  • Monitor facility and exercise utilization to promote safety and retention
  • Possess basic nutrition knowledge to enhance exercise outcomes
  • Design effective exercise programs utilizing principles of exercise physiology, anatomy, and kinesiology
  • Monitor vital signs during exercise sessions and address adverse reactions
  • Assist members in achieving and updating fitness goals
  • Promote retention strategies
  • Maintain a clean and organized facility
  • Mentor Exercise Technician colleagues
  • Communicate member concerns to relevant staff
  • Foster a positive and healthy work environment through leadership in fitness and wellness
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Experience: 1 year preferred with degree; 4 years relevant experience in lieu of degree
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in fitness, health, sports, or related field, or equivalent experience
  • Certifications: BLS certification required within 90 days of hire; additional nationally recognized certifications such as CES, PES, GPT, ACSM, ACE, NASM, CSCS, Crossfit, or ISSA required
