Position: Personal Trainer

Department: Jackson Fitness Center

Shift: Part time (8 Hours Week) Varies/Rotating

Overview:

The Personal Trainer is responsible for performing physical assessments on members, developing personalized exercise prescriptions based on assessments and health history, orienting members to equipment and facility use, and updating exercise plans as needed. They must possess excellent communication skills and understand the institutional Core Values: Dignity, Justice, Stewardship, Compassionate Service, and Excellence.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Assess health history to identify risks and needs.
  2. Conduct fitness assessments professionally.
  3. Determine when referrals to physicians or dietitians are necessary.
  4. Create personalized exercise prescriptions based on assessments.
  5. Ensure safety by properly adjusting equipment and overseeing use.
  6. Monitor member utilization of the facility and exercise prescription to promote safety and retention.
  7. Have basic knowledge of nutrition to enhance exercise benefits.
  8. Design effective exercise programs using principles of exercise physiology, anatomy, and kinesiology.
  9. Monitor vital signs during exercise sessions and address adverse reactions promptly.
  10. Guide members in achieving and updating fitness goals.
  11. Promote retention strategies.
  12. Maintain a clean and organized facility.
  13. Mentor Exercise Technician coworkers.
  14. Communicate member concerns effectively to relevant staff.
  15. Foster a positive, healthy work environment by leading by example in fitness and wellness practices.
  16. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  1. Experience: 1 year preferred with degree; 4 years relevant experience in lieu of degree.
  2. Education: Bachelor's degree in fitness, health, or sports-related field, or equivalent experience.
  3. Certifications: BLS certification required within 90 days of hire; certification from a recognized institution such as CES, PES, GPT, ACSM, ACE, NASM, CSCS, Crossfit, or ISSA required.
