Job description

Who We Are

The Smith Law Center has fought for the seriously injured since 1949. For more than 75 years, we’ve stood with individuals and families after life‑changing accidents, securing justice in traumatic brain injury, catastrophic, and other serious injury cases. We are a trial‑driven team known for results in the courtroom and compassion with clients. From our renovated offices in historic Hampton, VA, we blend decades of experience with modern technology to deliver life‑changing outcomes. At our core, we are mission‑driven: relentless in pursuit of justice, grounded in empathy, and united by the belief that every client deserves to be heard.

Why This Role Matters

Clients trust us to handle every detail of their case while they focus on recovery. As a Case Manager, you will manage a caseload from intake through resolution or filing of the lawsuit, ensuring that deadlines are met, medical records are obtained, and clients stay informed at each step. You will work directly with attorneys to prepare cases for settlement, mediation, or trial. This role requires legal knowledge, attention to detail, and strong technical skills. It is ideal for someone with plaintiff personal injury experience who can balance empathy for clients with the discipline required to manage pre‑litigation files.

Responsibilities
  • Manage a diverse caseload from intake through resolution, ensuring each client receives personalized attention and timely updates.
  • Collaborate closely with attorneys to prepare cases for settlement, mediation, or trial, ensuring all necessary documentation is complete and accurate.
  • Coordinate the collection and organization of medical records and other essential documents, maintaining meticulous records for each case.
  • Communicate empathetically with clients, keeping them informed and supported throughout the legal process.
  • Ensure all case‑related deadlines are met, proactively addressing any potential delays or issues.
  • Utilize modern technology to streamline case‑management processes, enhancing efficiency and accuracy.
  • Assist in drafting and reviewing legal documents, ensuring compliance with legal standards and firm policies.
Qualifications
  • Experience in plaintiff personal injury law strongly preferred (case management, paralegal, or litigation support).
  • Familiarity with medical terminology, records, billing, and lien resolution.
  • Strong working knowledge of Neos (or similar legal case‑management systems) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to manage a high‑volume caseload with strict attention to detail and deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills with a balance of empathy and professionalism.
  • Organized, proactive, and able to anticipate attorney and client needs.
  • Calm under pressure, team‑oriented, and committed to client service.
