Job summary

The University of Texas at Arlington in Arlington, TX, is seeking an IT Support Specialist to provide routine support for personal computing hardware, software, and connected devices. You will assist users with issues and help maintain documentation to ensure smooth daily operations.

The role requires an associate degree with two years of hardware/software installation or desktop support, or a bachelor’s degree with no experience, or four years of an equivalent education and experience.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree with at least two years of hardware/software installation or desktop support.
  • Bachelor's degree in IT/CS with no prior experience allowed.
  • Four years of an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted.

Responsibilities

  • Assist users with personal computing hardware, software, and devices to resolve routine issues.
  • Perform installation, setup, configuration, and basic maintenance of computers, software, and peripherals.
  • Support daily technology operations including software updates, website maintenance, and audiovisual equipment as needed.
  • Maintain documentation of procedures, systems, and equipment, and track inventory to support operational needs.
  • Coordinate with IT resources to ensure technology is functional to support academic activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

Purpose of Position

Provides routine support for personal computing hardware, software, and connected devices. Assists users with common issues, performs basic installation, configuration, and maintenance tasks, and helps maintain documentation to support smooth daily operations.

Essential Functions
  • Assist users with personal computing hardware, software, and connected devices, addressing routine technical issues.
  • Perform installation, setup, configuration, and basic maintenance of computers, software, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Support daily technology operations, including software updates, website maintenance, and audiovisual equipment as needed.
  • Maintain documentation of procedures, systems, and equipment, and track inventory to support operational needs.
  • Facilitate communication with IT resources and ensure technology is functional to support departmental or academic activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Associate degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field with at least two (2) years of experience in hardware/software installation or desktop support; or a Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field with no prior experience; or four (4) years of an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of one (1) year of experience supporting PC and Mac hardware, software, auxiliary devices, classroom technology, and applications in a higher education environment.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Assist users with personal computing hardware, software, and devices, resolving routine technical issues.
  • Perform basic installation, configuration, and maintenance of computers, software, and peripherals.
  • Maintain records, documentation, and assist with daily technology operations.
  • Provide clear, customer-focused communication and collaborate effectively with end users.
Work Schedule
  • Monday through Friday; 8:00am through 5:00pm
  • Will require on-call / after-hours
