Position Title: Assistant in Nursing / Personal Care Worker
Department/Area: Operations

Job Purpose (prime focus & objective of the position):
The Assistant in Nursing is responsible for providing quality care, services, and recreational activities to residents at Aged Care Home/Hospital, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or as directed by the Care Manager or General Manager. This role aims to assist, monitor, and support residents to achieve their optimal physical, emotional, and spiritual health in a comfortable, nurturing, and secure environment.

- Internal Contacts: Registered Nurses, Care Manager, General Manager, Residents, Resident Relatives
- External Contacts: Doctors
Key Accountabilities:
High Quality Resident Care
- Responsible for providing care in accordance with resident individualised assessed care needs.
- Ensure resident care aligns with the resident's individualised care plan or as directed by RN and/or Care Manager.
- Achieve and maintain AIN competencies as evidenced through staff annual assessments and as requested.
- Report all incidents promptly to Registered Nurse or Care Manager.
- Complete all activities related to Residents Care documentation and plans on TRAX (if required).
- Notify changes in resident care in a timely manner to RN in charge and/or Care Manager.
- Ensure resident care is within the AIN scope of practice and adheres to Focused Attention Quality Management standards.
- Proof of COVID vaccinations and National Police Check.
Documentation & Reporting
- Ensure compliance with resident-related documentation.
- Complete necessary documentation and reporting regarding changes in resident condition, including incident management.
- Participate in activities aimed at continuous service improvement, including WHS committee, quality improvement projects, etc.
Health, Safety and Environment (HSE)
- Conduct oneself safely to prevent harm.
- Report incidents, hazards, and near misses as per AQMS requirements.
- Report changes in care plans that may cause injury.
- Participate in HSE programs, inspections, meetings, and risk assessments.
- Complete all HSE training, follow safe work practices, and use provided equipment.
- Support the Home Safety Plan and Injury Management Programs.
- Contribute to achieving/exceeding HSE KPIs and individual HSE goals.
Development
- Participate in performance management and reviews.
- Demonstrate understanding and compliance with Focused Attention’s Quality Management System.
- Work with multidisciplinary teams for holistic resident care.
- Assist less experienced staff and promote positive work relationships.
- Understand and follow company policies and procedures.
Distribute Medication
- Adhere to policies and procedures regarding medication distribution.
- Complete annual competency and education for medication administration.
Other Duties
- Perform any other duties as directed by management to support resident care.
Qualifications Required:
- Certificate III Aged Care (Essential) or
- Certificate IV Aged Care (Desirable) or
- Completed first year of Bachelor of Nursing
- Current First Aid Certificate (Desirable)
- Satisfactory medication competency and education as per Focused Attention standards
Experience/Knowledge Required:
- Experience in Aged Care environment
- Highly organized with good multitasking skills
- Professional demeanor
- Motivated and proactive
- Effective communication skills with residents and staff
