Job summary

Centerville Elementary in Barnstable, Massachusetts is seeking a Part-Time Personal Care Teacher Assistant (PCTA). The role supports the teacher by working with students or small groups to reinforce instruction and maintain student wellbeing.

The position requires at least one year of college and offers opportunities to assist with behavior plans and data portfolios, with collaborations involving the teacher and school nurse. Immediate starting date and part-time hours are expected.

Qualifications

• One year of college required; two years of college preferred.
• Physical condition to manage behavior/physically challenged students; must be able to lift 50 pounds.
• Basic understanding of child growth and development.
• Alternative qualifications as the Principal may find appropriate or acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate ethical behavior and maintain confidentiality of student information.
• Current restraint program certification.
• Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
• Guide independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher.
• Implement student behavior plans.
• Monitor student health concerns in collaboration with teacher and nurse.
• Toileting/personal care/hygiene, when necessary.
• Awareness of student-assistance protocol.
• Assist with collecting, maintaining, and organizing data and portfolios, and/or work samples of students.
• Assist students with organization of desk, homework, class work and materials.
• Consult daily with teachers and other service providers when applicable.
• Facilitate student social interaction.
• Other duties as assigned by the teacher or Principal.
