Job description

The Position: The Personal Care Attendant I provides assistance to CEI participants in their home or day center. The Personal Care Attendant I demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide personal care and ADL/IADL care to frail elderly who need help to continue living safely in the community. The Personal Care Attendant (PCA) I provides care and services as determined by the participant's care plan in accordance with PACE Regulations. The hourly range for the PCA I position at Center For Elders Independence is $21.42 - $32.13 per hour, based on market rates, experience, skills, abilities, and work history. THIS POSITION IS ELIGIBLE FOR A $2,000 SIGN-ON BONUS!

General Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provides Activities of Daily Living (ADL) and Independent Activities of Daily Living (IADL) support, such as toileting, showers, bathing, dressing, grooming, feeding/assisted dining, meal service, laundry, transfers, ambulation, and range of motion exercises.
  • Completes safe transfers utilizing Durable Medical Equipment (DME), including lifts, gait belts, and hoyers.
  • Maintains cleanliness of participant-used bathrooms, including emptying and cleaning commodes.
  • Provides appointment reminder communications to participants.
  • Ensures the center or home is kept in a clean and orderly condition, including sanitizing showers/bathrooms and relevant DME.
  • Escorts participants to CEI vans if needed.
  • Documents participant services accurately and timely in electronic health records.
  • Acts as a participant advocate by reporting violations of the Participant Bill of Rights & Responsibilities.
  • Responds promptly to participant complaints and documents them appropriately.
  • Reports changes in participant's condition to supervisor or designee.
  • Demonstrates dependability by arriving on time and submitting accurate timesheets.
  • Maintains a professional, courteous, and helpful attitude.
  • Responds to the needs of all customer groups, including team members, participants, and families.
  • Complies with all training requirements and maintains necessary certifications.
  • Provides a safe environment, adhering to safety guidelines and CEI policies.
  • Maintains confidentiality of participant information per HIPAA.
  • Performs other duties as required in a positive manner.
Department Specific Duties:

Day Center: Records services, assists with activities, accompanies participants to appointments, ensures wander risk participants wear alert devices, obtains food handler certification, assists with food service, and performs kitchen duties.

Home Care: Monitors vital signs, provides medication prompts, manages catheter and ostomy care, assists with dressing, grooming, exercise, meal preparation, light housekeeping, laundry, and follows the home care plan.

Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Valid California driver’s license, current vehicle insurance, and access to reliable transportation required for Home Care.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification required.
  • Proficient in oral and written English; basic computer skills required.
  • Minimum one year of experience working with frail, low-income elderly preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team required.
  • Bilingual skills preferred but not required.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Requires frequent standing, talking, hearing, manual dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and push/pull over 150 pounds. The work environment involves exposure to diverse health conditions and environmental factors typical of healthcare and home care settings.
