Job summary

Lamar R-I is seeking a Personal Aide/Paraprofessional to support students with disabilities in a district-wide setting. The role focuses on non-instructional services that enable access to facilities and programs, including mobility assistance, eating and toileting support, and behavior management.

Ideal candidates hold an associate degree or 60 college hours and can maintain confidentiality, communicate effectively with teachers and families, and participate in staff development and school

Qualifications

• Associate degree or 60 hours of higher education.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions and write short notes.
• Strong communication skills for one-to-one and small group interactions.

Responsibilities

• Assist students with disabilities according to their individualized needs, including transfers to and from wheelchairs, lifting, or positioning.
• Assist students with physical care including feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene.
• Assist in managing the behavior of students.
• Keep the teacher informed of any special needs or problems of individual students.
• Maintain confidentiality of information about children and their families in accordance with Board policy and law.
• Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings and special events as requested by administration.
• Help supervise arrival and departure of students to which he or she is assigned.
• Follow and reinforce classroom procedures established by the teachers and administrators.
• Paraprofessional duties may be reassigned at any time throughout the school year, based upon the needs of the students in the special education or Title I programs.
