Job description

Permitting and Licensing Specialist $23 - $28/Hour Depending on Experience

If you are the kind of person who gets an unusual amount of satisfaction from finding the missing document, solving the problem everyone else overlooked, organizing chaos, and getting things moving again, please keep reading.

At Brda Electric, permits, licenses, inspections, utility applications, and compliance are not just paperwork. They are the difference between a project moving forward and a project sitting still.

We are looking for a sharp, organized, relentlessly detail-oriented Permitting and Licensing Specialist to become a critical part of our growing operation.

You will work across our Residential, Commercial, and Solar divisions, managing the approvals, registrations, documentation, inspections, and utility coordination that keep our projects on track.

Why Brda Electric

Brda Electric has been serving the St. Louis region since 1989 and has grown into a multi-service electrical contractor supporting residential, commercial, and solar customers. The company is family-owned, locally rooted, and continues to expand its services and operations.

We are not looking to stay the same. We are improving systems, investing in people, growing our capabilities, and building an operation capable of supporting where the company is going next.

This Is Not Just A Desk Job

If you are looking for a quiet position where you process the same forms every day and wait for someone to tell you what to do, this probably isn’t the job for you.

This role requires someone who can:
  • Keep track of a ridiculous number of moving pieces.
  • Follow up without being reminded.
  • Communicate confidently with municipalities, inspectors, utility companies, and internal teams.
  • Spot problems before they become emergencies.
  • Navigate changing requirements and unfamiliar jurisdictions.
  • Stay organized when priorities shift.
  • Take ownership.

You’ll need to be comfortable asking questions, digging for answers, following up, and being the person who says "We can't move forward until this gets handled."

Why This Role Matters

Every project starts somewhere. Before the electrician arrives, before the equipment is installed, before the solar system gets energized, before the customer sees progress. Someone has to make sure the permits are submitted, the contractor registration is current, the utility paperwork is complete, the inspection is scheduled, the documentation is accurate, and the approvals are in place. That someone is you.

Brda Electric manages projects across residential electric, commercial electric, and solar, including the permitting and utility coordination required to keep projects progressing from planning through activation.

Your work will have a direct impact on project timelines, customer experience, operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, field productivity, and revenue flow.

What You Will Own
PERMITTING

You will take ownership of helping ensure our projects have the approvals they need to move forward. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Preparing and submitting permit applications.
  • Reviewing project documentation for completeness.
  • Communicating with municipalities, counties, and Authorities having Jurisdiction.
  • Tracking permit status and approval timelines.
  • Following up on outstanding applications.
  • Obtaining permits and required approvals.
  • Communicating project readiness to internal teams.

You will learn the difference between jurisdictions and figure out what each municipality wants.

LICENSING AND COMPLIANCE

You will assist with:

  • Contractor license management.
  • Municipal registrations.
  • License renewals.
  • Compliance documentation.
  • Insurance certificates.
  • Required supporting documentation.
  • Tracking expiration dates and renewal requirements.
  • Maintaining organized licensing and compliance records.

You will become one of the people at Brda who knows what expires, when it expires, what it requires, and what needs to happen before it becomes someone else’s emergency.

INSPECTIONS AND UTILITY COORDINATION

Permits are only part of the equation. Projects also require coordination. You will help manage municipal inspection scheduling, inspection documentation, utility applications, utility approvals, solar interconnection paperwork, required utility documentation, status tracking and follow up, and communication with utility providers and internal teams.

ORGANIZATION, TRACKING, AND PROCESS IMPROVEMENT

We are growing. This means the systems that got us here won’t always be the systems that get us where we are going. We are not looking for someone who simply follows a process. We are looking for someone who can help make the process better.

You will do this by:

  • Maintaining accurate project records.
  • Updating internal tracking systems.
  • Monitor deadlines and outstanding requirements.
  • Keep documentation organized and accessible.
  • Identify recurring bottlenecks.
  • Recommend process improvements.
  • Help create more efficient workflows.
  • Build systems that reduce mistakes and prevent things from falling through the cracks.
Who Will Thrive Here

You will be a good fit if you are the type of person who:

  • Reads the instructions instead of guessing.
  • Enjoys spreadsheets, trackers, and organized systems.
  • Follows up until you get an answer.
  • Does not panic when there are multiple things happening at once.
  • Can switch gears without losing track of original task.
  • Communicates professionally, even when someone else is not making it easy.
  • Can work independently.
  • Takes ownership of problems.
  • Can be trusted with confidential and sensitive information.
