Job summary

City of Lenexa, Kansas is seeking a Licensing and Permit Technician to support the Community Development Department. You will guide residents, businesses, contractors and developers through licensing and permitting processes, helping projects move forward and ensuring accurate records.

The role emphasizes strong customer service, organization, and attention to detail in a fast-paced municipal environment. Applicants will be reviewed as submitted.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; experience 3–4 years in customer service or admin.
• Alternatively 2–3 years customer service/admin experience with ICC Permit Technician certification.

Responsibilities

• Assist the public with residential and commercial permit and occupancy applications and provide information on procedures.
• Process business licenses and special event permits.
• Answer complex phone and email inquiries related to duties.
• Process Certificates of Occupancy and licensing steps.
• Handle residential rental housing registration/licensing applications.
• Assess and collect fees for licenses, permits, and events; reconcile receipts daily.
• Schedule inspections and assist building inspection staff; support online portal users.
• Drive City or personal vehicle to perform essential duties.
