Job summary

BPR Consulting Group LLC is seeking a Permit Technician to support building permit issuance and customer service in California. The role involves interacting with builders, engineers, contractors, architects and the public to explain submittal requirements, codes, and permit regulations at the counter and by phone.

Under supervision, you will efficiently process permit applications, assemble plans for plan review, calculate fees, and monitor information through City departments and agencies.

Qualifications

• ICC Permit Technician certificate preferred.
• One year of work experience as a Permit Technician in a public agency.
• Related administrative support experience in a public sector building department is a plus.
• Must be computer literate.

Responsibilities

• Efficiently process building permit applications and miscellaneous permits; ensure all necessary approvals are obtained.
• Respond to inquiries and confer with builders, engineers, contractors, architects and the public concerning submittal requirements, building codes and permit regulations at the counter and over the phone.
• Assemble, route and monitor plans and associated information through various City Department and agencies for the plan review process and permit issuance.
• Calculate various valuations, plan check fees and permit fees.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

The successful candidate will work with the public and provide information regarding permits and building code requirements. Good people skills is mandatory and the ability to use tact and good judgement. Under general supervision, the Permit Technician will perform technical tasks, provide customer service and clerical work supporting the operations involved in permit issuance.

Desired Qualifications:

Knowledge of City government, procedures and operating details of building departments, building terms and codes, construction practices and materials beneficial. Experience in customer service and clerical / administrative functions desired.

Certifications / Experience:

• ICC Permit Technician certificate preferred
• One year of work experience as a Permit Technician in a public agency desired
• Related administrative support experience in a public sector building department, planning or public works department is a plus
• Must be computer literate

Compensation:

BPR Consulting Group offers competitive wages and has a strong benefit offerings.

Pay Range is $24 - $36 an hour
