Daily Rate: $213.90 Per day worked -not to Exceed 187 Days

Employment Period: Beginning in Aug 2026 and not to exceed June 9, 2027

PRIMARY PURPOSE: The Permanent Sub | Apprentice Program (PSAP) serves as an aspiring educator who participates in the Kingsville ISD Permanent Sub | Apprentice Program (PSAP) while completing Texas educator certification requirements. The Teacher Apprentice works under the guidance of highly effective mentor teachers and campus administrators to develop the instructional knowledge, classroom management skills, and professional practices necessary to become an effective classroom teacher.

Depending on certification status and Texas Education Agency (TEA) requirements, the Teacher Apprentice may serve as the Teacher of Record or provide instructional support under the supervision of a certified teacher. The position exists to strengthen Kingsville ISD's educator pipeline while improving student achievement through high-quality instruction, coaching, mentoring, and continuous professional growth.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university
Certification

Applicant must:

  • Be officially admitted into a Texas State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC)-approved Alternative Certification Program (ACP).
  • Seek to get certified in the content area and grade level assigned to teach at KISD.
  • Be actively enrolled and making satisfactory progress toward teacher certification.
  • Provide quarterly reports to the KISD Human Resources Executive Director from the ACP verifying enrollment and progress as requested.
  • Maintain good standing with the ACP throughout participation in the program.

  • PSAP applicants who successfully complete all certification requirements or receive an SOE from their respective ACP during the current school year may be considered to receive a Chapter 21 contract for the current school year based on multiple data points and staff recommendations.

Professional Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate professionalism and ethical conduct.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.

  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and support staff.

Compensation

Teacher Apprentices Program (PSAP) participants are compensated according to the Kingsville ISD Permanent Sub | Apprentice Program guidelines.

  • Daily Rate: $213.90 per day.
  • Maximum Workdays: Up to 187 workdays.
  • Working Period: Beginning August 24, 2026, and not to exceed June 9, 2027.
  • Maximum Annual Compensation: Total compensation shall not exceed $40,000.
  • Compensation for Days Worked: PSAPs will be compensated only for days actually worked. PSAPs will receive no compensation for days not worked, including absences due to illness, personal reasons, or other circumstances, unless otherwise required by applicable law or District policy.
  • Additional Assignments: District-approved assignments outside the established PSAP workdays may be compensated in accordance with applicable District pay schedules and procedures.
  • Benefits: PSAPs are not eligible for District-provided employee benefits including health insurance, paid sick leave, paid vacation, or other paid leave benefits, unless otherwise required by applicable law or District policy. Eligibility for any legally protected leave, including FMLA, will be determined in accordance with applicable law and District policy.

Teacher Apprentices will receive ongoing coaching and performance feedback throughout participation in the Permanent Sub | Apprentice Program. Continued employment is contingent upon satisfactory instructional growth, professionalism, successful completion of certification requirements, and compliance with district policies and program expectations.

Failure to meet program expectations, maintain satisfactory performance, or comply with district policies and professional standards may result in removal from the Permanent Sub | Apprentice Program and/or termination of employment.

Teacher Apprentices are expected to demonstrate continuous growth in instructional effectiveness through high-quality lesson preparation, standards-aligned instruction, effective classroom management, formative assessment, and responsiveness to coaching and feedback.

Upon successful completion of all SBEC-approved ACP requirements and receipt of a Statement of Eligibility (SOE) or a Standard Texas Educator Certificate, participants may be considered—but are not guaranteed—for a Chapter 21 Probationary Contract based on district staffing needs, demonstrated instructional effectiveness, professionalism, positive student outcomes, favorable recommendations from their mentor teacher and campus principal, and the Superintendent's recommendation, subject to approval by the Kingsville ISD Board of Trustees.
