Responsibilities

• Anticipates the needs of the surgeon, passing instruments and sutures as required.
• Assists the surgeon by retracting tissue and handling instrumentation under direct supervision.
• Establishes and maintains an organized sterile field.
• Selects proper sterilization methods and verifies sterility of instruments.
• Adheres to aseptic techniques and reports unsafe practices.
• Helps pull cases, checks case cart, and ensures equipment is ready before procedures.
• Prepares the operating room with sterile supplies and cards for scheduled procedures.
• Follows scrubbing, gowning, gloving, and draping procedures with the circulating nurse.
• Performs scrub assistance and supports patient care plans during surgery.
