Responsibilities

• Facilitates transferring/positioning of patients in the OR and assists with patient preparation.
• Prepares the OR for cases by opening sterile supplies/instruments and maintaining aseptic technique.
• Reads OR schedule and prepares for the next surgical encounter.
• Retrieves and delivers supplies and instruments to ORs to minimize nurse time out of room.
• Gathers and packs instruments and sterile supplies for cases.
• Checks and validates case carts and sets up rooms for next day.
• Takes specimens and cultures to lab as needed and maintains temperature logs.
• Submits tickets to Engineering to ensure a safe environment of care.
• Supports additional projects or duties as assigned.

The position requires a High School Diploma, 2 years of hospital experience, and BLS certification. Previous experience in surgical services or a perioperative/OR environment is preferred.

Inova Mount Vernon Hospital is looking for a dedicatedPerioperative Support Specialist 2 to join the Team. This full-time role will be day-shift working Monday – Friday from 6:30am – 3:00pm or 7:00am - 3:30pm located in Alexandria, VA.

The Perioperative Support Specialist 2 assists with patient care while retrieving and delivering requested supplies, instruments and equipment to the operating rooms as directed by the surgical team. This role demonstrates professional and advanced knowledge of aseptic surgical technique and surgical procedures. Demonstrates responsibility for self-development. Provides equipment support for operating room staff and surgeons before and/or during the operative procedures to avoid procedure and turnover delays.

Perioperative Support Specialist 2Responsibilities:

• Facilitates the transferring/positioning of patients in the operating room in addition to assisting with patient surgical preparation as requested and directed by the nursing staff.
• Prepares the operating room for cases by opening sterile supplies/instruments and maintaining awareness of aseptic technique.
• Reads and understands the OR schedule and preference cards to prepare for the next surgical encounter.
• Retrieves and delivers requested supplies and instruments to Operating Rooms to minimize the circulating nurse's time out of the room.
• Gathers and packs instruments and sterile supplies for scheduled and added cases to provide efficient procedure set up of surgical cases.
• Checks and validates case carts.
• Sets up rooms for the next day with standard equipment.
• Takes specimens and cultures to lab as needed.
• Maintains Temperature Logs.
• Submits tickets to Engineering to ensure a safe environment of care for our patients and team members.
• Supports additional projects or duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Education:High School Diploma or equivalent

Experience:2 years of hospital experience.

Certification:Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association (AHA) upon start

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience within surgical services preferred.

Previous experience supporting a perioperative/OR environment preferred.
