Job summary

Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, IA is seeking a Unit Director to provide direct patient care leadership and coordinate nursing activities to ensure safe, high-quality outcomes at the unit level.

You will act as a role model, lead by example, and collaborate with physicians, staff and other managers to meet departmental and organizational goals. The role involves budget management, planning, throughput improvement and staff development.

Qualifications

• Minimum of two years RN perioperative experience required.
• Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to coordinate with surgeons, staff and physicians.
• Must possess a current or compact state RN license and be able to read, write and speak English.

Responsibilities

• Develops, implements and reviews policies and procedures in line with Joint Commission, federal/state regulations.
• Provides staff support to ensure positive patient care experiences and resolves patient/family complaints.
• Maintains staffing plans for supervised areas and ensures adequate staffing through collaboration with managers.
• Supervises staff; provides education, orientation and support to team.
• Participates in budget planning and monitoring; uses budget data in decision making.
• Provides front-line leadership, mentors staff, and fosters a culture of safety at unit level.
• Coordinates equipment and supply needs; attends department and management meetings.
• Performs recruitment/hiring, scheduling, timekeeping, and maintaining personnel records as assigned.
