Job summary

Hartford Hospital is seeking a registered nurse for the preoperative/perioperative care role. The nurse will assess patients, educate families, and coordinate care with a multidisciplinary team to ensure safe perioperative processes.

Responsibilities include preanesthesia assessment, medication administration, monitoring during sedation, and discharge planning, aligned with state nurse practice acts and hospital policies.

Qualifications

• Current unrestricted Connecticut RN License.
• Graduate of an accredited nursing school; BSN preferred.
• BLS certification by the American Heart Association.
• ACLS certification within 90 days for internal candidates and prior to hire for external candidates.

Responsibilities

• Perform pre-admission assessment including physical assessment and review of pertinent labs and preoperative diagnostics.
• Prepare and administer medications safely using the 8 rights of medication administration; monitor patients receiving sedation.
• Collaborate with the perioperative team to ensure safe and timely transition to the operating room or procedure area.
• Provide ongoing assessment and documentation of care in Postanesthesia Phase II and discharge planning.
• Educate patients and designated support persons on perioperative expectations and discharge instructions.
