Job summary

Boys Town National Research Hospital is seeking an experienced OR nurse to join our perioperative team. The role includes pre-operative assessments, planning and implementing care, and assisting surgeons with instrumentation and sterile technique.

You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, ensure accurate documentation, and uphold Joint Commission standards while supporting patient education and comfort throughout the surgical journey.

Qualifications

• Registered nurse with a current state license.
• Minimum of one year of OR experience.
• CPR (BLS) certification required.
• ACLS certification within 6 months of transfer or hire.
• PALS certification within 6 months of transfer or hire.
• Proficient in electronic medical records and basic computer use.

Responsibilities

• Conduct pre-operative assessments including physical, cognitive, spiritual and psychosocial aspects.
• Formulate and revise care plans; tailor care to patient age and development.
• Maintain accurate documentation and report to the care team.
• Perform circulating duties in the OR and supervise surgical technologists.
• Ensure Time Out and patient/site/procedure verification.
• Assist in positioning and patient comfort; manage specimens.
• Maintain asepsis and correct sterile field setup.
• Prepare OR supplies, instruments, and Surgeon Preference Cards.
• Assist in OR readiness and turnover; limit room traffic.
• Support leadership with equipment acquisition and supply needs.
• Participate in in-services and quality/performance improvement.
