Job summary

Cleveland Clinic Fairview Hospital is seeking a Perioperative Educational Program Coordinator to lead orientation and ongoing education for clinical and support staff. You will collaborate with the Professional Development Manager to implement and evaluate educational activities across the OR, EP & cath areas and related service lines.

Ideal candidates hold a BSN and RN licensure with perioperative experience, and possess strong adult-learning skills.

Qualifications

• BSN required and RN licensure in good standing.
• Experience teaching or coordinating perioperative education is preferred.
• Familiarity with adult learning principles and curriculum development.

Responsibilities

• Plan, implement and evaluate departmental orientation and education activities.
• Cover operating rooms and procedural areas, including intra‑procedural EP & cath cases.
• Coordinate continuing education and staff development within the department.
• Assist in interviewing new caregivers and conducting evaluations.
• Provide patient care up to 20% of time to demonstrate clinical competencies.
• Support regulatory compliance training (CPR, ACLS, fire safety, HIPAA; TB testing).

As a Perioperative Educational Program Coordinator, you will work in conjunction with the Professional Development Manager to plan, implement and evaluate departmental orientation and education activities for clinical and support caregivers. This position will cover the operating rooms, procedural areas, intra‑procedural EP & cath cases at Fairview Hospital along with OR needs at Fairview ASC. This role provides the opportunityto share your knowledge and skills with other caregivers while creating opportunities for others to learn and grow. There are multiple options for professional development in this role, such as certifications, advanced education, distinguished educatorcertificateand simulation fellowships.

A caregiver in this position works daysfrom7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.You must have the flexibility to float to Westlake.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Plan and implement orientation for new hires.

• Assisteducation caregivers in assigning unit preceptors.

• Assistin interviewing new caregivers.

• Complete probationary performance evaluations for new hires andparticipatein annual evaluations with unit managers.

• Coordinate continuing education and training programs and staff development within the department.

• Assistin coordinating programs with local colleges and universities.

• Perform patient care up to 20% of work time inareaof clinicalexpertisein order todemonstrateclinical competence and be able to teach others.

• Activelyassistthe management team with ensuring caregiver compliance with regulatory requirements. This may include training and recertification for CPR, ACLS, annual education on fire safety, diversity, code management,HIPPAAand coordination of TB testing.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

• Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross

• If performing moderate/procedural sedation, must have Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within six months of hire

• Two years of perioperative experience, specifically in circulating/OR setting

• Demonstratedexpertisein a clinical specialty with current patient care competence

• Knowledge of adult learning theory, motivational strategies, change theory, group process skills, leadershipstrategiesand teaching

• Demonstrated computer skillsutilizingclinical systems (Epic/Optime) and Microsoft applications (Excel,Wordand PowerPoint)

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Master’s Degree

Physical Requirements:

• Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
• Requires working under stressful conditions of working irregular hours.
• Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.

Personal Protective Equipment:

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
