Job summary

The Medical University of South Carolina seeks a PRN Perfusionist to support open heart and cardiovascular procedures. You will work with the surgical team under the supervision of the Chief Perfusionist/Director of Surgical Services, coordinating setup, operation and management of heart-lung machines and related equipment.

Requirements include a BS Perfusion Technology or BS with Perfusion Tech certificate, 3–5 years clinical experience, ABP perfusion certification, and current BLS

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Perfusion Technology or Bachelor of Science degree with a certificate in Perfusion Technology from an accredited program.
• Three to five years of clinical experience preferred.
• Certification by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion required.
• Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers required.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and participate in the management, setup and operation of heart/lung machines and other equipment used in open heart and cardiovascular procedures.
• Evaluate techniques and/or equipment for clinical application.
• Act as a resource person for the entire heart team and ensure effective communication with the team.

Job Description

In collaboration with the surgical team, and under the supervision of the Chief Perfusionist/Director of Surgical Services, the perfusionist is primarily concerned with coordinating and participating in the management, set up and operation of heart/lung machines and other ancillary equipment used in open heart and other cardiovascular procedures. The perfusionist is responsible for:

• evaluating techniques and/or equipment for clinical application
• acting as a resource person for the entire heart team
• ensuring effective communication with the entire heart team

Additional Job Description

Bachelor of Science degree in Perfusion Technology or Bachelor of Science degree with a certificate in Perfusion Technology from an accredited cardiovascular perfusion education program.
