Responsibilities

In collaboration with the surgical team, and under the supervision of the Chief Perfusionist/Director of Surgical Services, the perfusionist is primarily concerned with coordinating and participating in the management, set up and operation of heart/lung machines and other ancillary equipment used in open heart and other cardiovascular procedures.

  • Evaluating techniques and/or equipment for clinical application
  • Acting as a resource person for the entire heart team
  • Ensuring effective communication with the entire heart team
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Perfusion Technology or Bachelor of Science degree with a certificate in Perfusion Technology from an accredited cardiovascular perfusion education program.
  • Three to five years of clinical experience (pediatrics experience preferred).
  • Experience in call or transport required.
  • Certification by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion required.
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.
