Job summary

UCI Health in California seeks a Perfusionist Supervisor to coordinate daily clinical operations of the Cardiac Perfusion services, oversee staffing and scheduling, ensure competencies, and maintain compliance with policies. Qualifications

• Three years of demonstrated experience working as a perfusionist, preferably in a level one trauma center.
• Customer service skills appropriate to the job.
• Knowledge of sterile and perfusion supplies including extracorporeal oxygenators, tubing circuits, and cannulae for adult, pediatric, and infant patients.
• Knowledge of human anatomy, disease processes, physiology, and biochemistry; arteries, veins, organs, and blood-flow pathways; and pressures and gas exchange in all patient populations.
• Knowledge of blood components, plasma composition, and use of blood products in support of extracorpuale circuits.
• Perfusion experience with all patient populations.
• Clinical leadership experience.
• Bachelor’s degree.

Position Summary

The Perfusionist Supervisor is responsible for coordinating the day‑to‑day clinical operation and the administrative functions of the Cardiac Perfusion services department. The Supervisor provides daily oversight of staffing and scheduling for the Perfusion team, while ensuring competencies in clinical areas and compliance with departmental policies, procedures, and regulatory agencies. The role provides leadership and direction for the staff, promotes quality, safety, and cost‑effective patient care, and fosters a collaborative working environment.

Required Qualifications

• Three years of demonstrated experience working as a perfusionist, preferably in a level one trauma center
• Customer service skills appropriate to the job
• Knowledge of sterile and perfusion supplies including extracorporeal oxygenators, tubing circuits, and cannulae for adult, pediatric, and infant patients
• Knowledge of human anatomy, disease processes, physiology, and biochemistry; advanced knowledge of arteries, veins, organs, and specific blood‑flow pathways; and understanding of pressures and gas exchange in all patient populations
• Knowledge of blood components, plasma composition, and use of blood products in support of extracorporeal circuits and devices
• Perfusion experience with all patient populations
• Clinical leadership experience
• Bachelor’s degree
• Ability to work variable shifts including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays
• English language proficiency for reading, writing, and communication
• Project management skills and the ability to maintain a suitable work pace
• Flexibility and effectiveness in a fast‑paced, constantly changing environment
• Ability to learn and apply TJC, CDC, and AABB standards and protocols applicable to operating room procedures and departmental policies; knowledge of sterile techniques in patient care
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System
• Ability to conduct literature searches of medical topics using Medline programs and to teach and demonstrate routine scientific applications

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree or higher
• Leadership experience in strategic planning, long‑range financial planning, budgeting, and financial reporting
